What are the benefits of using a nebulizer?

What is a nebulizer?

According to medical definition Nebulizers deliver liquid and aerosol medications to your lungs via a mask or mouthpiece that help you breathe. Medications given via nebulizers can treat acute conditions such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, common cough, allergies or prevent respiratory problems from developing. As well Nebulizers have benefits as a treatment over oral medication or inhalers. Here we will look into what are the benefits of using a nebulizer and why you should consider using one.

USING A NEBULIZER FOR RESPIRATORY TREATMENT

A nebulizer is a device very similar to an asthma inhaler but much easier and pleasant to use, almost relaxing some people may say. Unlike inhalers which generally require you to breathe in when you release the medication, the medication in a nebulizer treatment flows continuously. This allows the medication to be delivered via a mask or mouth piece very quickly usually between 5 and 10 minutes while you breathe normally during the treatment. Nebulizers are also safe and more friendly to use even for babies or elderly.

Overall nebulizer respiratory treatment can prevent many respiratory problems from developing as well as treat acute breathing emergencies. For example long-term bronchodilators taken on a daily basis can keep the bronchial tubes open. Steroids reduce inflammation and mucus production in the lungs which can block flow.

How this is done? Well by sending medications where they are needed most — your lungs. Unlike systemic medications which take time to pass through the gastrointesinal tract to your bloodstream, nebulizers deliver medications quickly & directly to the respiratory tract

Let’s take a look at Albuterol, a commonly used bronchodilator begins to work in around 5 minutes when given via a nebulizer compared to around 30 minutes when given orally according to the American Association for Respiratory Care reports.

The only downfall for using a nebulizer has been that they are to big to carry around, but with today’s technology companies are now creating portable nebulizers making it even easier to carry in your purse or backpack. Every home should have a nebulizer to help prevent common respiratory diseases.
